Muslims are advised to look for the crescent moon in Saudi Arabia during Ramadan in 2023

Saudi Arabia has encouraged Muslims to observe the Ramadan crescent moon on the evening of March 21, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The crescent moon heralds the start of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset.

The Supreme Court ordered that anyone who sees a crescent moon, whether with their own eyes or through binoculars, report it to the nearest court and register their observation.

The moon sighting committee in Saudi Arabia usually observes the moon in the days leading up to Ramadan's expected start date, but they have encouraged other Muslims who wish to sight the moon to do so as well.

Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset during Ramadan as part of an Islamic ritual designed to promote patience, charity, and community.

Employees in Muslim countries are permitted to work shorter days - either six hours per day or 36 hours per week. In addition, students have shorter school days.
